Trump Unveils 20-Point Plan to End Gaza Conflict, Backs Israel’s Measures

US President Donald Trump proposes a comprehensive 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza.

President Trump affirms that Israel has the full support of the United States to take necessary actions to defeat Hamas if the group rejects the peace deal. The plan seeks to bring an immediate ceasefire, hostage releases, and a roadmap for peace in the region.

United States President Donald Trump says “we’re beyond very close” to ending the war in Gaza after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House and presenting a 20-point peace plan.

Israel Considers West Bank Annexation Amid Rising Global Support for Palestine

He called Monday a “historic day for peace” as he spoke at a news conference with Netanyahu at his side.

Netanyahu praised Trump, saying: “I support your plan to end the war in Gaza, which achieves our war aims.”

The US president said he was “hearing that Hamas wants to get this done too”.

But Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi after the news conference, said the group has not yet received Trump’s written Gaza peace plan.

Trump said “everyone else has accepted it” but added that if Hamas fails to agree to the plan “as you know, Bibi, you’d have our full backing to do what you would have to do.” Bibi is Netanyahu’s nickname.

Trump said: “Prime Minister Netanyahu was very clear about his opposition to a Palestinian state, … and I understand and respect his position on many things, but what he’s doing today is so good for Israel.”

He noted that a number of allies have “foolishly recognised the Palestinian state, … but they’re really, I think, doing that because they’re very tired of what’s going on.”

No questions were taken from the press during the announcement. The joint appearance by President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu concluded without a media Q&A session.

In its 20-point peace plan released on Monday, the White House said the US would establish a dialogue between Israel and Palestine and that within 72 hours of Israel accepting the agreement, all Israeli captives would be released.

The White House said Israel will not occupy or annex Gaza and no one will be forced to leave the Strip.

Israeli forces would withdraw to agreed-upon lines to prepare for the captive release. Once all Israeli captives are released, Israel would release 250 Palestinians serving life sentences and 1,700 people from Gaza who were detained after the start of the war on October 7, 2023, the plan said.

Key Points of Trump’s 20-Point Gaza Peace Plan

  1. Immediate Ceasefire: An immediate halt to all hostilities between Israel and Hamas.
  2. Hostage Release: All Israeli hostages to be released within 72 hours of Israeli approval.
  3. Prisoner Exchange: Israel will release approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 250 serving life sentences and 1,700 detained since October 7, 2023.
  4. No Forced Displacement: No Palestinian will be forced to leave Gaza; those who choose to depart may return at any time.
  5. Israeli Military Withdrawal: Israeli forces will withdraw to positions held during the January–March 2025 ceasefire, with full withdrawal contingent on deployment of an international stabilization force.
  6. International Stabilization Force: Deployment of a multinational force, likely composed of neighboring Muslim countries, to ensure security and maintain peace.
  7. Technocratic Governance: Establishment of a transitional, apolitical Palestinian committee to govern Gaza, supported by an international “Board of Peace” chaired by Trump and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
  8. Exclusion of Hamas from Governance: Hamas will be excluded from any future role in governing Gaza.
  9. Hamas Disarmament: Hamas must disarm and dismantle its military capabilities.
  10. Amnesty for Disarmed Hamas Members: Hamas members who disarm and commit to peace will receive amnesty.
  11. Safe Passage for Hamas Members: Hamas members who choose to leave Gaza will be allowed safe passage.
  12. Humanitarian Aid: Immediate resumption of humanitarian aid under the supervision of the United Nations and the Red Crescent.
  13. Infrastructure Rehabilitation: Rebuilding Gaza’s infrastructure including water, electricity, sewage systems, hospitals, and bakeries.
  14. Economic Development: Implementation of a “Trump economic development plan” focused on creating a “New Gaza” as a demilitarized, high-tech zone.
  15. International Investment: Encouragement of international investment to support Gaza’s reconstruction and development.
  16. Palestinian Statehood: Potential establishment of a Palestinian state, contingent on reforms to the Palestinian Authority and societal changes.
  17. Interfaith Dialogue: Promotion of interfaith dialogue to foster coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians.
  18. International Oversight: Establishment of mechanisms for international oversight to ensure compliance with the peace plan.
  19. No Annexation of Gaza: Israel will not annex Gaza under this plan.
  20. Freedom of Movement: Residents of Gaza will be granted freedom of movement within the region.

These points aim to address the immediate humanitarian crisis, establish a framework for long-term peace, and lay the groundwork for a future Palestinian state. The plan is contingent upon Hamas’s acceptance and cooperation.
