In an era where media narratives are often driven by political interests and regional biases, meeting an exceptional journalist who embodies clarity, confidence, and warmth is a rare privilege.

As part of our ongoing collaboration with China Global Television Network (CGTN) under the China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC) program, we recently had the opportunity to visit the CGTN headquarters a hub of China’s international media outreach.

Among the many highlights of the visit, one stood out distinctly: meeting Liu Xin the leading anchor of CGTN and the host of the renowned program The Point with Liu Xin. Known globally for her articulate style and commanding presence, Liu Xin is more than just a television presenter; she is a thoughtful analyst and an ambassador of China’s perspective in the global media landscape.

Watching her conduct her live show from just a few feet away was an experience in itself. The way she seamlessly navigated complex global issues with poise, critical insight, and sharp questioning spoke volumes about her deep understanding of international affairs. Her delivery was confident, her tone persuasive, and her command over the narrative unshakable. She truly epitomizes the power of informed journalism.

After the program, we were fortunate to sit down with her for an in depth conversation lasting more than half an hour. What struck us immediately was the stark contrast between the commanding presence on screen and the gracious, soft spoken personality off camera. Liu Xin welcomed us warmly, engaging us not just as a journalist but as a genuine person curious to know about our countries, experiences, and insights.

Her smile, her laughter, and her open-heartedness reflected an inner beauty the kind that often goes unnoticed in the glare of lights and lenses. We discussed the global media environment at length the challenges faced by journalists, the evolving nature of truth telling in the digital age, and the misconceptions that cloud Western perceptions of Chinese media. Liu Xin was not only well informed but also refreshingly honest in addressing these concerns. She acknowledged the need for dialogue, empathy, and media literacy in shaping a more balanced global narrative.

She also hosted a lunch for us a kind gesture that reflected the hospitality and respect CGTN extends to its guests.

Liu Xin represents the kind of journalism the world needs more of intelligent, principled, and humane. Her ability to handle intense international debates with calm authority, while still radiating humility and charm, makes her a role model for both emerging and established journalists. She stands as a testament to how media personalities can remain grounded while occupying global stages.

For me, the visit wasn’t just a media encounter; it was a moment of reflection. As someone keenly observing global politics and the shifting balance in international communication, I found myself deeply engaged in the conversation around narrative control, media ethics, and cultural representation. It reaffirmed my belief that the future of journalism lies not in confrontation but in understanding in challenging dominant discourses with nuance rather than noise. This encounter added a layer of depth to my journey as both a journalist and a global observer.

Meeting Liu Xin was not just an interaction with a famous anchor; it was a human connection a meeting of minds across cultures, borders, and professions. In a world where media is often seen as a battleground, she reminded us that it can also be a bridge.
