Danish Ambassador Joins Novo Nordisk Pakistan in National Push Against Obesity

In a significant move to address Pakistan’s growing obesity crisis, Novo Nordisk Pakistan, in collaboration with key healthcare stakeholders, hosted a high-level event titled “Unordinary Partnerships to Shape a Healthier Tomorrow”.

The event was attended by senior medical professionals, policymakers, civil society leaders and notably, the Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, H.E. Jakob Linulf, who served as the guest of honor.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Linulf underscored the importance of partnerships in tackling global health challenges.

“Obesity is a complex issue that requires joint action,” he said. “I commend companies like Novo Nordisk for playing a positive role in advancing public health in Pakistan. Together, we can foster a healthier society with long-term impact.”

The event focused on raising awareness and building collective action against obesity a condition that now affects an estimated 38 million Pakistanis, according to health experts.

Rashed Rafique Butt, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Pakistan, highlighted the company’s 100-year global legacy and its 25 years of dedicated research into obesity. He introduced GLP-1, a scientifically advanced treatment that has helped millions worldwide achieve weight loss.

“Our mission goes beyond treatment. True progress against obesity demands a unified front involving the government, NGOs, health institutions, and communities,” he stated.

Dr. Javed Akram, President of the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine, warned of the severe health and economic implications of unchecked obesity.

“This is no longer just a lifestyle issue. Obesity is a disease one that deeply strains our healthcare system,” he said.

Adding to the urgency, Dr. A.H. Amir, President of the Pakistan Society of Obesity, called for a national campaign focused on prevention, public awareness, and changing societal attitudes.

“We must challenge the stigma around obesity and use the power of media to shift public behavior towards healthier living,” he urged.

The event concluded with a joint declaration from all attendees, vowing to work together to combat the obesity epidemic and promote long-term wellness across the country.
