Tajikistan Embassy in Islamabad Celebrates Nowruz, Strengthens Cultural and Climate Ties

The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Pakistan marked the International Nowruz Holiday with a grand reception and cultural exhibition, celebrating centuries-old traditions while promoting regional unity and environmental awareness.

Held at the embassy in Islamabad, the event brought together diplomats, academics, and cultural enthusiasts from across the capital.

Ambassadors and dignitaries from Iran, Iraq, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Russia, and other nations participated in the festivities, underlining the shared heritage and spirit of Nowruz, a festival that heralds the arrival of spring and symbolizes peace, renewal, and harmony across diverse cultures.

In his keynote address, H.E. SHARIFZODA Yusuf Toir, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tajikistan to Pakistan, stressed the importance of safeguarding the environment amid growing global challenges.

“To prevent drought, we must preserve nature and protect water. Pakistan and Tajikistan enjoy deep-rooted and cordial relations. Nowruz is a very special festival, we’ve been preparing for four days, sharing traditional food and joy,” he said.

The celebration featured a curated exhibition of traditional Tajik arts and crafts, including intricate chakan embroidery, handwoven textiles, and vibrant ceramics. Guests were treated to live folk music and a rich array of Tajik cuisine, offering an immersive cultural experience.

The event also served as a platform to raise awareness about climate change and glacier preservation, with the ambassador highlighting Tajikistan’s upcoming High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, to be held in Dushanbe from May 29 to 31, 2025. The summit is expected to convene global leaders, scientists, and policymakers to address the urgent challenges of glacial melt and regional water security.

Through this Nowruz celebration, the Embassy of Tajikistan showcased its rich cultural heritage and reaffirmed its commitment to regional cooperation, both cultural and environmental, fostering stronger ties with Pakistan and beyond.
