Spotify, the world’s leading audio streaming service, is facing a widespread outage affecting thousands of users worldwide. As of 10:45am US East Coast time (14:45 GMT) on Wednesday, more than 20,000 outage reports had been logged on Downdetector, although the number had decreased significantly from an earlier peak of over 48,000 reports.

Users have been experiencing a variety of issues, including difficulty loading the app and website, problems playing or hearing songs, and issues with the search function. Additionally, some users reported challenges accessing the platform’s support site.
“We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!” Spotify wrote on X (formerly Twitter) early Wednesday. The company’s official support account, SpotifyCares, later reassured users that “the right team is on it and working on a fix.”

Despite the disruptions, the technical problems appeared to be on the decline as the day progressed. Spotify has not yet provided a specific explanation for the issues but has denied any claims of a security breach. A follow-up post clarified that “reports of this being a security hack are false.”
Spotify, which boasts over 675 million active users worldwide—including 263 million subscribers in more than 180 markets—has not given an estimated time for a complete resolution of the outage.
