In a major development, Belarus has extended an offer to welcome over 150,000 skilled Pakistani workers, a move hailed by PM Shehbaz Sharif during his official visit to Minsk.

The visit also saw both nations sign multiple agreements to boost cooperation in defense, trade, agriculture, and mining sectors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Belarus has extended a “generous offer” to welcome more than 150,000 highly skilled Pakistani workers to contribute to its economy.

The announcement came during his official visit to Belarus, where he met with President Aleksandr Lukashenko to discuss enhanced cooperation between the two countries.

Calling the opportunity a “gift” for Pakistan, PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude for the trust placed in Pakistani talent. “This initiative will not only benefit the Belarusian economy but also provide meaningful livelihoods to our youth,” the premier said during a joint press appearance with President Lukashenko. He assured that the workers being sent would be certified to international standards and prove to be an asset to Belarus.

The move comes as both countries deepen their strategic and economic ties. PM Shehbaz’s visit follows President Lukashenko’s trip to Pakistan in November 2024, during which over a dozen memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements were signed.

These efforts aim to foster collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, defense, trade, technology, and mining.

During his remarks, PM Shehbaz highlighted Belarus’s expertise in manufacturing equipment for the mining sector. “Pakistan has untapped mineral deposits worth trillions of dollars. With Belarus’s technical knowledge, we can become excellent partners in resource development,” he said.

The prime minister also emphasized Pakistan’s desire to benefit from Belarusian agricultural technology to increase productivity. “Pakistan is an agrarian country. Sixty-five percent of our population lives in rural areas. We welcome joint ventures to boost our agricultural yields using modern methods,” he noted.
